Zimbabwe Coronavirus Cases In Significant Jump

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care revealed that the Southern African country recorded a significant jump in the number of coronavirus cases after recording 774 new cases in the past 24 hours.

In a statement, the ministry stated that all 774 new cases were local transmissions.

The Statement indicated that Harare had recorded the highest number of cases, 571, followed Masvingo which had 55 cases while Bulawayo had 41.

New cases pushed the state’s total coronavirus tally to 15 265 amid reports that both private and public health institutions designated for the treatment of coronavirus patients have been pushed to the brink.

The Ministry also revealed that 3 deaths were recorded in Bulawayo Manicaland and Mashonaland East.

These new deaths push the death toll to 380 since March last year when the first fatality was recorded.

Meanwhile, the government has reimposed a strict lockdown in a bid to curb the spread and transmission of the deadly virus.

Some people who were interviewed by ZBC News welcomed the move some saying the Beitbridge border should have never been opened in the first place.

Zimbabwe and South Africa opened the border for travellers early December last year, for the first time since March when the counties recorded their first cases.
